The New York School Bus Contractors Association (NYSBCA) held its 50th Annual School Bus Driver Safety Competition on May 2, 2026, at Rockland Lake State Park, welcoming drivers, volunteers, industry leaders, and supporters from across the state for the “roadeo.”
The event featured a spirited competition where drivers demonstrated the skill, focus, and professionalism required to safely transport students each day. Through written exams, obstacle courses, and hands-on driving challenges, participants showcased the standards that define New York’s student transportation industry.
2026 NYSBCA Safety Competition Winners
Type C School Bus (Conventional)
- 1st Place: Carolina Mariaca, Chappaqua Transportation
- 2nd Place: James Breen, Educational Bus Transportation
- 3rd Place: Thomas Gisonna, Suffolk Transportation Service
- 4th Place: John Herrera, Chappaqua Transportation
- 5th Place: Mary Myslim, Chappaqua Transportation
Type A School Bus (Van)
- 1st Place: Timothy Pulaski, Suffolk Transportation Service
- 2nd Place: Anai Guzman, WE Transport
- 3rd Place: Anibal Nieves, WE Transport
- 4th Place: Aaron Grijalva, WE Transport
- 5th Place: Andrine Howlett-McLoyd, Suffolk Transportation Service
Rookie Award
- Timothy Pulaski, Suffolk Transportation Service
The top three winners in each class are eligible to compete in the National School Transportation Association’s School Bus Driver International Safety Competition (SBDISC), taking place June 27–28, 2026, in Austin.
“School bus drivers are among the most highly trained transportation professionals on the road,” said Paul Quinn Mori, NYSBCA’s president. “This competition showcased their exceptional skills and reinforced the critical responsibility they carry in safely transporting students.
The association thanked Seth Corwin, Frank Klein, and James Rogan for their leadership in weekly planning meetings and course preparation and event operations, as well as Roxanne Corr and Sean Corr for supplying the equipment.
