37th Annual NYS School Bus Safety Competition
Highlights and Photos

The 37th Annual NYS School Bus Safety Competition took place
in beautiful Harriman State Park at Lake Sebago
on Saturday, May 17th

Thank You!

We would like to take an opportunity to thank our sponsors: John White with Schenectady Insuring Agency for underwriting costs associated with the competition, as well as Rick Reichenbach and Will Popowick with Factory Direct Bus Sales for the driver and judge t-shirts. General sponsors of the event included Leonard Bus Sales, Nesco Bus Maintenance, Inc., and Ramp Transportation.

We would like to thank the Safety Competition Committee and all of those people who came to help judge the competition. As you know, you need almost as much support staff as you do competitors. The following companies and organizations sent representatives to help us out:

Arthur F. Mulligan, Inc., Bay Shore Schools, Bedford, Bus Parts Warehouse, Chappaqua Transportation, Chestnut Ridge Transportation, Durham School Services, Educational Bus Transportation, Factory Direct Bus Sales, G&G Bus, Haverstraw Transit, Huntington Coach, Jaco Transportation, Mid-City Transit, NYSDOT, Ramp Transportation, Rolling V Bus Corporation, Royal Coach Lines, Student Bus Company, Suffolk Bus Corporation, The Trans Group, We Transport and West Point Tours.

We would like to give special thanks to The Trans Group for the white bus (a.k.a. mobile office), the use of competition buses, multiple judges and for James Rogan. James was a major participant in helping get the competition site and course logistics worked out. Many thanks goes out to Haverstraw Transit for the use of competition buses, judges and for Tom Brown. Tom planned all of the food, beverage and ice and worked out all of the details with the caterer. He brought the buses for competition and his golf cart (to help collect score sheets quickly). Thank you to Pierce Coach Lines for coordinating the rental truck for storage and delivery of the course materials, for taking care of the awards and for Larry Pierce -- our M.C. of the competition. Thank you to Rolling V Bus Corporation for coming through and donating competition buses at the last minute! Biggest thanks go to Chappaqua Transportation for the pre-planning, onsite and overall coordination of the safety competition, supplying competition buses and for Seth Corwin. Seth spent countless time preparing us for this event, getting the photocopies, supplies and sponsors in place, and making sure both the contestants and the judges were taken care of. Judy Corwin and other Chappaqua Transportation staff spent countless hours with Seth gathering and preparing all of the materials necessary to kick off this event flawlessly.

Thank you to our Booster Book sponsors who helped support the safety competition and sending well-wishes to all of the drivers. Those who participated include:

Atlantic Detroit Diesel-Allison, Bus Parts Warehouse, Chappaqua Transportation, Durham School Services, Factory Direct Bus Sales, First Student, Inc., G&G Bus Service, Inc., George M. Carroll, Inc., Haverstraw Transit Inc., Leonard Bus Sales, Inc., Mid City Transit Corp., Nesco Bus Maintenance, Inc., New York Bus Sales, P.A. Post, Pierce Coach Lines, Pioneer Transportation, Ramp Transportation, Ridge Road Express Inc., Rolling V Bus Corporation, Schenectady Insurance Agency, Student Bus Company, The Trans Group, Veteran's Transportation, Inc. and West Point Tours.

And last -- and most important -- we would like to thank each of the 2008 NYS School Bus Safety Competition contestants. You are all very good at what you do -- and it is obvious that you love it. Without people like you, we would not feel confident in saying, "school bus transportation is the SAFEST mode of transportation there is". Congratulations on a job well done! And, thank you for making us all look good.

Quinn Mori was the good luck charm and sold the most amount of
50-50 tickets than has ever been sold before. Thanks Quinn!!!

Here our 50-50 winner is pleased to find out he won over $700!

The buses are lined up to begin the 2008 NYS School Bus Safety Competition

And they're off! Diminished clearance is one of the first stops

Now, off to the Offset Alley

The judges at the Railroad Crossing wait for their next driver

And now, it's time for the Type A bus

Seth Corwin, James Rogan and Tim Flood help oversee the course

The Student Loading judges wait for their drivers to come through

I see the judges are still smiling, it must be because it didn't rain this year!

In the White Bus (mobile office), the gals have some fun with Seth
-- and all he was trying to do was help.
Where's Judy Corwin when we need her?

Thank you for supporting the 2008 NYS School Bus Safety Competition!
- See you in 2009 -
