your drivers compete against the best in the state!
The
winners of this Competition can move on to participate in either the NYAPT Safety
Competition in Albany, NY on July 12th or the National School Transportation Association
(NSTA) International Safety Competition in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, July 19th
and July 20th. Support
the 2008 NYS School Bus Safety Competition by placing
an ad or well wishes in the Competition Booster Booklet. Information
is enclosed. If
you would like to help during the competition (as a judge - or in any other capacity),

- The
thirty-seventh New York State School Bus Safety Competition, organized by the
New York School Bus Contractors Association (NYSBCA), will be held on the grounds
of Lake Sebago, in Harriman State Park, on Saturday May 17th.
- The
competition is limited to the first 125 entries received. All contractor
and school district drivers are welcome (as long as all other entrance requirements
are met).
- All
contestants must report to the registration desk by 8:00AM for orientation,
followed by a written exam beginning at 8:15AM.
- The
field competition will begin promptly at 9:00AM for van drivers and 9:30AM for
bus drivers. In order to qualify for the field competition, each contestant's
written exam must be completed prior to the start time above.
- Competition
vehicles include: large conventional school bus (type C), transit style bus
(type D) and conventional size van (type A).
- Contestants
will be given a competition number at registration, based on the order in which
their application was received. For proper identification, contestants must display
this number in their vehicle while competing. Contestants will compete in numerical
order, unless otherwise determined by the judges. Any driver will be disqualified
if he/she is not ready when it is his/her turn to compete.
- The
entrance fee for the competition is $30.00 per driver for NYSBCA members and
$35.00 for non-members. If you are interested in purchasing lunch, there is
an additional charge (see information below and on the application).

RAFFLE
and AWARDS All participants are automatically entered in a raffle and
everyone will win a prize. First, second and third place trophies will be awarded.
First place winners in each category are invited to participate at the NYAPT or
NSTA International School Bus Safety Competitions. LUNCH
Lunch will begin being served at 10:30AM and finish at approximately 2:30PM.
Quantities are limited and cannot be ordered the same day as the competition.
The cost of lunch is as follows: $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for children four- to
twelve-years old and no charge for children three or younger. Tickets may be purchased
for family, friends and attendees. All tickets must be paid for in advance. PARKING
If you are planning on taking any commercial vehicles (i.e., bus, van, etc.),
to this year's safety competition, you must request a permit no later than Friday,
May 2nd. VOLUNTEERS
If anyone on your staff would be interested in participation as a judge, computer
processor or in any other capacity, please notify NYSBCA as soon as possible.

Directions
to Sebago Beach Contestants
and Judges: Due
to the coinciding bicycle race and our new competition site, Harriman State Park
has asked that we use the Sloatsburg entrance into the park this year. Please
use the following directions to get to Sebago Beach. From
the south: 87 north to exit 15A for Sloatsburg/Suffern (next exit passed
exit 15). Stay left off of the exit and turn left onto route 17 north. Follow
route 17 north for 2 ½ miles to the traffic light at Seven Lakes Drive.
Make a right onto Seven Lakes Drive and follow for a little more than 5 miles.
The road will become divided near the intersection of Seven Lakes Drive and Lake
Welch Drive. Take next left passed Lake Welch Drive which puts you onto Seven
Lakes Drive in the opposite direction. The immediate first right turn is the entrance
to Sebago Beach. From
the north: Take route 17 south to Sloatsburg. At the first traffic light
in Sloatsburg ( ½ mile passed Hot Tubs/Custom Pools and Jessie's Bagels
on right), make left onto Seven Lakes Drive. Make a left onto Seven Lakes Drive
and follow for a little more than 5 miles. The road will become divided near the
intersection of Seven Lakes Drive and Lake Welch Drive. Take next left passed
Lake Welch Drive which puts you onto Seven Lakes Drive in the opposite direction.
The immediate first right turn is the entrance to Sebago Beach. Return
