QUESTION:
We have a student attending another school district this Fall. Can we do "cooperative"
transportation on this? ANSWER:
Two or more school districts can enter into a "shared services" contract
or agreement. You may negotiate this contract on an annual basis. This is one
of the 3 ways to award a pupil transportation contract. You may only negotiate
with another school district or BOCES. All contracts, even negotiated
ones, must be filed with SED and approved by the Commissioner. So, you must file
a contract with SED. Since it is not competitively bid, you may not extend the
contract next year, but you may issue a new negotiated contract for the same service
with the same district(s). Hope
that this clarifies things. Marion Edick, State Director Pupil Transportation
