Pupil Transportation Contractors Included in new Regional Transportation Pilot Program

The NYSBCA legislative committee was able to get the legislature to include pupil transportation contractors in a new law that allows the State Education Department to study the viability of regional transportation systems.  It was important for pupil transportation contractors to be included in the legislation to ensure that NYSBCA members have the legal right to participate in the process.  Education Committee Chairwoman, Senator Oppenheimer, sponsored the bill in the Senate (S.8376) and the companion bill (A.11566) was sponsored by Assemblywoman Nolan who is the Assembly Education Committee Chairwoman.  Governor Paterson signed the bill into law on August 13, 2010.
