      Annual Convention Information

The New York School Bus Contractors Association  (NYSBCA) was founded in 1950 and represents over two hundred companies involved in the pupil transportation industry, operating over 22,000 school vehicles in New York State and transporting over two million children each day, for a total of 100 million miles yearly.  NYSBCA will be holding its 56th Annual Convention October 15-17, 2010 at the Montauk Yacht Club located in Montauk, New York on the tip of Long Island.

      About the Convention:

In the beginning of 2009, NYSBCA decided to promote its “Go Green, Ride Yellow” campaign.  The association has been working hard on getting children on school buses.  As you know, the yellow bus is not only the safest mode of transportation, but for every full school bus, it takes 36 personal vehicles off the road.  With today’s economy, NYSBCA has also been pushing the importance of not only keeping or getting children on the school bus, but we’ve been trying to educate NY school personnel about the cost-savings private transportation can provide.  The focus of this year’s convention will be on what school bus options are available, what expenses we see in the future and how privatizing school transportation can save districts money.  Join us for cutting edge information and take time to mingle with old friends and meet new ones.

      About the Area

Long Island is the largest and longest island in the United States. A large body of water, the Peconic Bay, splits the eastern end to form two narrow peninsulas, commonly referred to as two forks. At Montauk, the extreme tip of the South Fork, the northern side opens to the waters of Block Island Sound with the Atlantic Ocean on the southern side.   For more information and Montauk history, go online to www.onmontauk.com.

      About the Yacht Club

The Montauk Yacht Club is a destination resort unlike any other with a wealth of amenities and facilities to keep every member of your family active and occupied and always having a great time. The resort offers: heated indoor pool, two outdoor pools, saunas, surf camp, volley ball, horseshoes and bocce ball, tennis courts, spa, fitness center, nearby golf course, private lake beach and more!  The hotel’s address is 32 Star Island Road, Montauk, NY 11954.  To find out more, visit the resort’s website at www.montaukyachtclub.com.

    • 15th National Congress on School Transportation - May 16, 2010 at 07:00pm University of Central Missouri - Warrensburg, MO

Since 1939 the National Congresses (formerly Conferences) on School Transportation have been held periodically with the primary objective of ensuring safe, efficient transportation for school children. Since 1980 the 300-plus delegates from around the country who comprise the NCST have convened each five years. The 15th NCST will meet in May 16-19, 2010, in Warrensburg on the campus of the University of Central Missouri.

The delegates will deliberate and adopt proposed updates to the 2005 National School Transportation Specifications and Procedures (NSTSP). The Specifications and Procedures are the primary purpose and product of the Congresses, comprising the delegates’ formal recommendations for vehicles, equipment, and operational practices that contribute to the objectives of safety and efficiency. As stated within the introduction to the NSTSP, its intended use is that “the specifications for school buses and procedures for operation are available for states to consider when establishing their standards, specifications, recommendations, and guidelines.”

    • Free TSA Security Exercise - March 26, 2010 at 09:00am The Century House - 997 New Loudon Road (Route 9) Latham, NY

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), in conjunction with the New York School Bus Contractors Association (NYSBCA) requests your participation in a free regional school bus security exercise being conducted Friday, March 26, 2010 at The Century House (Route 9) in Latham, NY.

The Security Exercise is open to all public and private pupil transportation personnel and is limited to the first 50 attendees.

To register, please call the NYSBCA office at 518-220-9905 or register online at: http://tsa-istepexercises.com/albany/

This workshop is intended to bring together several regional security partners to discuss multi-partner coordination of prevention and protection actions in response to a transportation security incident affecting the school bus community. The exercise will be a scenario-based advanced tabletop exercise that is focused on assessing security threats, establishing communications, securing critical infrastructure and assets, and public evacuation.

The Regional School Bus Security Exercise will afford valuable opportunities to better understand the role you and other security partners may play in gaining awareness of how to prevent and respond to a security incident specific to the school bus community. Your participation is important to ensure your perspective is presented during our discussion. In addition your participation will provide an opportunity to enhance existing relationships with other industry partners and agencies as we work toward a common goal of increased security preparedness.

NYSBCA would like to secure as many participants and observers from the various organizations as soon as possible.  Please help us coordinate with colleagues and industry representatives to ensure the event has a robust and diverse attendance.
